TITLE:                                   Special Education Self Contained
QUALIFICATIONS:              1.  B.S. or B.A. in Special Elementary Education and/or Elementary Education                                                   
                                              2.  Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
                                              3.  Experience teaching Emotionally Handicapped students
                                              4.  Certification in therapeutic holds
REPORTS TO:                       Building Administrator and Director of Special Services
1.  Demonstrate respect for individual students and sensitivity for their unique needs.
2.  Daily instruction will demonstrate planning to meet the needs of the students based on their IEP, and
     the District Critical Learnings.
3.  Use a variety of instructional techniques and strategies that will include curriculum modification
     in content presentation, knowledge of the instructional process and hands-on presentation in math
     and science and integration of instruction.
4.  Utilize the current research in learning to the classroom that includes cooperative learning, content
     based instruction, language development, etc.
5.  Evaluate students based on performance standards according to the individual IEP’s.  Data will be
     used to evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the program.
6.  Consistently uses the model of Reality Therapy and Responsible Thinking to promote the positive
     development of appropriate social skills and responsible behavior.
7.  Model the correct use of Reality Therapy strategies to maintain healthy classroom interaction.
8.  Take necessary precautions to maintain a safe classroom for the staff and students that may include
     therapeutic holding to assist students with self-control.  Therapeutic holding will be administered
     within the guidelines of the training program.
9.  Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policy and administrative
     regulations.  These records may include, but not be limited to, all IEP reviews and revisions, progress
     reports, daily logs, behavior charts and logs, absences and achievement records.
10. Maintain appropriate instructional books and materials to meet the needs of the students.
11. Participate in faculty meetings, staffings, building core and team meetings, and all meetings
      by the building principal and/or special services director.
12. Implement all district and building emergency procedures.
13. Maintain consistent parental communication through conferences, phone calls, progress reports,
      home visits, daily point sheets in which strengths and needs of the student are discussed.
14. Develop a plan for continued professional development, which will include participation in district
      sponsored in-services, USI workshops, instructional and writing process workshops, Reality Therapy
      and Control Theory.  This will also include professional growth classes and conference attendance. 
      Develop a self-evaluation plan with the primary evaluator that provides feedback for continuing
      professional development.
15. Use a systematic plan for development of professional growth and evaluation of classroom aides.
      This will include modeling appropriate instruction, questioning strategies and Reality Therapy.
16. Any other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administrators.
EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy on Evaluation
                             of Professional Personnel.
